Der Ursprung der Newtype-Sippe ist die
Newtype Mono, ein moderner und »verspielt-charmanter« Typewriter-Font. Dieser wurde im Laufe der Projektarbeit durch eine proportionale Schriftfamilie — die
Newtype Stereo — erweitert.
Trotz der konstruiert wirkenden Formen ist die Newtype dank ihrer offenen Binnenräume angemessen gut lesbar, so dass sie sich (außerhalb des Einsatzes in Romantexten) für alle Gebiete des Kommunikationsdesigns eignet.
Die Newtype ist eine Sippe (36 Styles), welche aus zwei Grundfamilien besteht: Mono und Stereo.
Jede dieser Grundfamilien hat je eine kursivierte Erweiterung und eine Variante mit abgerundeten Ecken, ebenfalls ausgestattet mit je einer kursivierten Erweiterung.
Basic Styles sind
Newtype Mono (Light, Regular, Bold, Heavy) und
Newtype Stereo (Light, Regular, Bold, Heavy, Black).
Die abgerundeten Varianten sind
Newtype Mono Rounded (Light, Regular, Bold, Heavy) und
Newtype Stereo Rounded (Light, Regular, Bold, Heavy, Black).
Die kursivierten Erweiterungen sind
Newtype Mono Slanted (Light, Regular, Bold, Heavy),
Newtype Stereo Slanted (Light, Regular, Bold, Heavy, Black),
Newtype Mono Rounded Slanted (Light, Regular, Bold, Heavy) und
Newtype Stereo Rounded Slanted (Light, Regular, Bold, Heavy, Black).
Some years ago we were looking for a font to use on the labels of our Music CD-Collection but found nothing suitable. So we decided to design a neutral-looking typeface—strong characters with a pure appearance, suitable for all genres of music from classics and jazz up to hip hop, techno and so on.
OK — there is no font which can meet these demands but at the end of the day we at least had a big new typeface family in our portfolio.
Newtype is a 36-Style Superfamily with two global Families: MONO and STEREO. Each of them has a SLANTED extension and a ROUNDED counterpart also with SLANTED extension.
Basic Styles are
